The Bluff Heights area of Long Beach is borderd by Redondo Ave in the east, Junipero Ave in the west, Broadway Ave in the south, and 4th Street in the north. A home survey completed in 2004 showed 588 of the 754 homes in Bluff Heights qualified as historical contributing homes.
Bluff Heights was originally planned by John H. Bixby in 1886 as a section of Alamitos Beach Townside, which was annexed to Long Beach in 1905. 60 SqF x 150 SqF lots were sold in prices ranging from $150 and up (Can you believe that price?) with a $25 down payment. Ocean view lots started at $350, and went as high as $600.
Bluff Heights was designated as Historic in 2004 by the City of Long Beach, and has a large selection of Craftsman homes, Spanish Revival homes, Tudor Revival homes and Art Deco homes. as well as several condominium buildings, and rental properties, which were built mostly in the late Sixties, Seventies, and early Eighties.
There is a strong sense of community in the Bluff Heights neigborhood of Long Beach. There is an active Home Owners Association, with an annual block party, Annual tours of historic homes, and beautification contest held yearly.
Bluff Heights is the destination for Craftsman aficionados who love to maintain the Historic features of their homes, and love to give their cars a rest to walk to shops, restaurants and the beach, as well as the bike path and the Long Beach Museum of Art.
Bluff Heights is THE place in Long Beach to find beach close homes on larger lots, often 6000 Sqf or larger, at prices that are more affordable that Belmont Heights, and there is better beach access.
